My husband and I have been on the sustainable life change now for a relatively short time. If you’ve been to Gary’s web site you will have no doubt read why we set out on this path.
That's not to say that trying to become sustainable has been easy, but things worth doing rarely are. The learning and work is never-ending, but we are trying to design and do things that require as little effort for maximum output.
Some people equate the tasks of being sustainable with drudgery (harvesting and storing fruit, feeding chickens, etc) but I felt this way about "office" work. I was a slave to the monotony of office work years ago, all for the rewards of a pay slip. Yet the rewards I’m experiencing now are so much more satisfying, namely: a feeling a of accomplishment from growing my own food that to comes to our table, being my own boss at setting my own priorities and work schedule, pride in knowing that I am reducing my burden on the planet and helping to protect and maintain native vegetation for my local wildlife.
So far, our life has not been boring, as we’ve always got something to do. If we aren’t trying to plan ahead, or trying to learn more each day, we are constantly trying to keep on top of things. Additionally, we enjoying growing our network of like minded friends who share in our passion and our hopes.
If you’re a like minded person, looking to become sustainable or add to your knowledge, I hope my site will be a source of inspiration, a gathering of useful information and sets you on a path to a sustainable change. Good luck and enjoy!
