About Me

Toni Warden is a founding member of the Stop the Eastern Terminal Substation Action Group and a member of the Hills Climate Action Group, and the Nature Reserves Preservation Group.

As the mother of two children, she is a passionate advocate for the preservation of the environment and the urgent need to take action at a local level to address climate change.

She has worked in the mining industry in remote locations in Australia and South America and her experiences include developing innovative solution strategies, contract administration and occupational health and safety and environmental initiatives. She has a strong understanding of the complexities of cultures, the impacts of social inequity and an appreciation for our natural environment.

She has a broad understanding of the energy, water, environmental conservation and social challenges facing Western Australia and believes that The Greens is the only political party that is offering credible solutions to these issues.

As the Greens candidate for Kalamunda in the Lower House, she recognises three major issues affecting the seat of Kalamunda as being the lack of community services, the high cost of life’s necessities (like rent, power, food, education and transport) and the need for the community to move towards sustainable living.

All areas of the Kalamunda electorate have largely been forgotten about by the two major parties. Labor and Liberal’s drive for economic boom has lead to an enormous social crisis that is weakening our communities. Housing prices are unaffordable, skilled labour in policing, teaching, nursing, and the building industry has been drained away. Our petrol prices have increased, but there has been no compensation in the form of adequate cheap public transport.

She will look to introduce legislation that will ensure Government sponsored financial incentives for programs that will help to offset rising power, food, petrol and housing costs. For example, incentives for cheap solar power systems and electricity tariffs rewarding modest users. I will also push for the establishment of farmers’ markets, an increase in express bus services to our suburb hubs and a reduction in the stamp duty on new homes.

The Greens have always focused on the needs of the community and have always worked to keep the government honest. What Kalamunda needs is for the voting public to recognise that it is time for a change in the history of our political leadership. Both major parties are one and the same and have made a mess of our communities. The Greens are the only community focused political party that will do the hard work to safe guard our future.
